Deer Hunter Charged with Big Buck Contest Fraud

By November 14, 2024

What is it that motivates hunters to do risky and wrongful things in the deer woods? For one hunter, it was the chance at collecting a $10,000 shopping spree that pushed him to the point of foolishness for the sake of big bucks.

In a recent news release, Louisiana agents said that a 27-year-old Arkansas man has been charged with “hunting contest fraud and violating interstate commerce regulations.”

Fully expecting to win the $10,000 shopping spree prize, the man entered an illegally harvested deer in a Big Buck contest in Louisiana at Simmons’ Sporting Goods

“Agents received information from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Enforcement Division about a hunter harvesting a buck in Arkansas and entering it into a big buck contest in Louisiana,” state officials said.

“Agents learned he illegally harvested a 15-point buck during illegal hours on September 8th near Crossett, Arkansas and then entered the buck into the Simmons’ Sporting Goods Big Buck Contest in Bastrop later that same day.”

The contest rules require all deer be legally harvested within 200 miles of the store, “in accordance with State Game Laws.”

The 171″ buck was killed within 200 miles of the store, just not legally.

It’s another reminder that if you play stupid games, you’ll likely get stupid prizes.
