Age This Buck #39

Here’s an interesting buck, sporting a very unique rack. Whether this is genetic or from injury is unclear, however this deer is frequent on camera and has no problem displaying signs of wanting to be in charge.

With the help of the images below, what is your best guess for the age of this whitetail buck?

He's got a lot of character for a young buck, but this deer has that long-legged tall and gangly look that 2.5 year olds are known for. This is a 2.5 year old with a super uniquely racked future ahead of him.

3.5 here. Heโ€™s got a weird rack, but nothing about his body says heโ€™s older to me.

The thin body and proportions on this buck have me believing that he is a 2.5-year-old.

Contrary to what these images make you think, this buck is actually 4 years old. He was a nice up-and-coming three year old that was wounded by a neighboring hunter the year before. You will notice his front left leg is being held up in the air at all times because it is injured. That affected not only his antler growth, but his body size as well. Unforunately I do not believe he survived the past winter. We found one shed antler, but he was never seen again after trail cam pics in March, so we presume he died somewhere along the line.
