When the Ozonics unit first came on the scene for the hunting industry, I was skeptical. Does it really work? And who in their right mind is gonna use something like that? Then I started to see hunters that I know and respect putting it to use with great success. I saw hunters that hate carrying all the extra gadgets and gear, now heading to the woods with the Ozonics unit. It got my attention.
Since those early days, I’ve used several different Ozonics products to find success in the deer woods for myself. I’m no longer a skeptic. The thing works. And the latest release in their lineup of ozone generators is their best yet, making a great product even better. Here’s a look at some of the features that quickly became a favorite in the new Ozonics HR500 unit.
If you’re not familiar with ozone generators, just know that these devices were designed to electronically change ordinary oxygen into ozone. It chemically alters your human odor to leave you undetectable from wild game.
Ozonics uses scientifically proven technology to deliver the right oxidant concentration to bond to your scent molecules and reduce, alter, and eliminate your odor. It’s the science of purification brought to your hunt.
Less Noise
One of the biggest differences I noticed in this newest unit is that it’s noticeably quieter than what we’ve seen in the past. And it’s not like the previous models were loud, but a lot of hunters questioned whether or not the hum of the fan would spook a deer. I’ve never found it to be an issue with previous units. Regardless, Ozonics rearranged the design and layout of the HR500 to create the quietest generator yet.
In fact, you’ll hardly hear the device at all when it’s running in the Standard mode (the mode used for hunting in a ground blind, or shooting house). But even in Boost mode (treestand mode), the HR500 is noticeably quieter than it’s predecessor, the HR300.
I used the HR500 while hunting from both the ground and treestands during the August velvet hunt weekend in Tennessee. It was a hot and humid weekend with the winds constantly switching directions. I cycled through all the different modes over the course of the weekend with deer in bow range and never had an issue with deer picking up on the noise made by the fan.
Easier Adjustments
The layout of the control panel on the HR500 is super simple to navigate and make adjustments with the push of a button. But now, there are more options to make changes and adjustments easier than ever, without ever having to stand and reach up to the unit.
For starters, there’s now an app for your smartphone to connect with the App Enabled HR500 unit. The app allows you to control the functions and operations via your smartphone through the Ozonics App. The app is free and loads quick and easy.
Easier yet, you can now control the HR500 device with a handheld remote. The remote control option allows you to increase ozone output with the click of a button during critical times, or when you have a buck headed your way.
The remote comes with a clip and strap, giving you ample mounting options so you’ll always have it close by. Clip it to your bino or rangefinder strap to keep it close to your chest for an easy grab when you need quick and easy adjustments, all without ever having to stand and reach for the unit in the tree above you.
I don’t carry the Ozonics unit with me on every hunt. But when the wind gets questionable or sketchy, it’s nice to have a solid backup plan to keep me covered. The new HR500 is quieter and easier to use than ever before. It’s definitely a nice tool to keep in the bag when the conditions call for a tougher approach to scent elimination.
The HR500 wears a price tag of $399. Check it out at www.ozonicshunting.com.
