Mystery Ranch Metcalf Hunting Pack Review

By Brodie SwisherJune 28, 2024

One of the best parts of traveling for a big game hunt is the planning and preparation that comes prior to the hunt. It’s the new gear we discover on our seemingly endless search for the best tools for the job. Hunters love the excitement of gathering gear in the days leading up to the hunt.

If a new backpack is on your list for your next big game hunt, we’ve got you covered. In the video below, Justin Zarr walks through the Mystery Ranch Metcalf pack, taking a closer look at the features, function and size options.

Check it out in our Mystery Ranch Metcalf hunting  pack review.

The Metcalf pack comes in 3 size options – Metcalf 50, Metcalf 75 and Metcalf 100. The Metcalf 50 (3050 cu-in) keeps you covered as an oversized day pack, or even when you’re pulling an overnighter.

The Metcalf 75 (4575 cu-in) is a great pack for multi-day hunts away from the truck or base camp, and the Metcalf 100 (6100 cu-in) is designed for your expedition style hunts where you’ll be hauling your complete camp into the backcountry for multiple days.

Apart from the sizing options, each pack carries the same great features throughout. In the video above, Justin focused primarily on his personal pack, the Metcalf 50. Check it out below.

Mystery Ranch Metcalf Hunting Pack Review

The Metcalf 50 is perfectly suited as the beefy daypack with ample options for hauling serious loads. It’s built with the Ultra Light MT frame, so it’s lighter, yet still plenty capable of hauling meat when success comes your way.

No more wasted walks back to the truck to drop gear. This pack allows you to make adjustments on the fly, so you can haul a load of meat or gear out on the first trip back to the truck or camp.

The detachable lid allows you to keep your essentials close and easily accessible. Or, you can ditch the lid to lighten your load and pack size altogether. The options are endless when it comes to customizing this pack for the perfect fit and function for your hunt.

The roll top closure keeps your gear safe and secure from the elements. It easily cinches down and clips to either the side or front of the pack, while the side zip allows quick access to all your larger items.

Key Features of the Metcalf Pack

  • External blaze orange frame tabs allow easy attachment for accessories such as the Stick-It or Gravelly 18
  • Zippered pockets on the detachable lid allow easy and secure access to your essentials
  • Multiple compression straps ensure your gear is secure
  • Bag features multiple attachment points for lid straps so you can secure the lid no matter how much you pack
  • Side attachment points for lid straps when you want to run the bag without the lid and need to secure the roll-top closure
  • Interior blaze orange ribbon loops for attaching Small and Medium Quick Attach Zoid Bags
