Few categories in hunting technology have seen more explosive innovations over the last decade than crossbows.
Crossbows have become smaller, lighter, more compact, more powerful, and more accurate at an astounding rate. With their widespread inclusion into general archery seasons, more hunters are taking to the field with crossbows than ever before.
While much of the focus has been on arrow speeds, with multiple crossbows eclipsing the 500-feet-per-second mark, archers have found that power often comes at a price (literally).
Flagship bows flinging arrows at more than 500 fps often pack a hefty price tag, while being hard on equipment such as strings & cables, arrows, broadheads, and targets.
New for 2025, TenPoint Crossbows has introduced two new crossbows packed full of cutting-edge technology at a price point that is more in line with most top-end compounds.
The TX 28 and TRX 26 are compact bows featuring TenPoint’s Twin-Riser Technology (TRT), ZERO-Trac Barrel, and custom TriggerTech Trigger.
The TRX 26 is a reverse-draw crossbow that is only 26.5″ wide and can shoot arrows at speeds up to 460 fps. Its MSRP is $3,049.
Featuring a standard draw and slightly longer platform, the TX 28 can reach speeds of up to 410 fps and retails for just over $2,000.
Having shot dozens of crossbows over the last few years, I find myself gravitating towards compact, maneuverable bows with enough speed to pack a punch without overdoing it.
In my opinion, the new TX 28 not only meets those requirements but far exceeds them.
At 410 fps, the TX 28 is faster than any compound on the market. This speed will maintain a flat arrow trajectory at standard bowhunting distances while still producing enough power to take down any animal you want to hunt.
For me, mid-to-low 400’s is the “sweet spot” when it comes to arrow speed from a crossbow.
On top of that, the TX 28 weighs only 7.2 lbs and includes the AcuSlide Maxx system for easy cocking and de-cocking. Again, it’s everything I need in a crossbow and nothing that I don’t.
Coming in at just over $2,000, the TR 28 is priced to compete with any flagship compound bow which, after outfitting with a top-of-the-line rest, sight, and stabilizer setup, can quickly run North of $2,500.
Whether you’re looking to dip your toes into the crossbow waters or upgrade your current rig, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better “do all” bow than the USA-made TenPoint TX 28.
