You hear all the talk about the ATA Show in January every year among the archery and bowhunting community, but what exactly is the ATA show?Â
For starters, the ATA Show, or Archery Trade Association Show, is an annual trade show event designed around the archery and bowhunting industries.Â
Originally formed in Wisconsin in 1953 as the Archery Manufacturers and Dealers Association (AMADA), the organization began with an initial membership including archery legends like Fred Bear and Bob Lee.Â
The association began with the task of standardizing bow and bow string lengths, resulting in a measure called “AMO standards.”Â
In the 1960s, AMADA shortened its name to the Archery Manufacturer’s Organization (AMO). Membership for the association greatly increased throughout the 1970s with the invention of the compound bow.Â
The AMO Archery Trade Show began in 1997, becoming a funding source for the association.Â
In 2002, the AMO was reorganized into the Archery Trade Association. The ATA operates as a nonprofit effort to grow archery and bowhunting, and works with organizations within the archery industry.Â
The ATA Show is the archery industry’s biggest event of the year, and the best place to see new products, make new connections and generate new business. The ATA Show is not a consumer show. It’s a buyer’s show open to archery pro shops and businesses around the world.Â
These days, the ATA Show features shooting lanes, networking opportunities, education sessions and seminars, awards and social events. Â
For the last15 years, Bowhunting.com has been bringing annual coverage of the show with photos, videos, and reviews of the year’s latest products and information.
