What Is The Proper Arrow Length?

Asked By Carter OlszewskiAug 22, 2024

I just got into building my own arrows. Iโ€™m running a Matthews Halon 32 at 70 lbs with a 29.5 in draw length. I previously ran a 28.75 in arrow (carbon to carbon). I’ve thought about switching to a 29 inch arrow because the arrow would be even with the end of the riser and would leave the broad head sticking out past the riser. Would this length be optimal since I go back and fourth between shooting mechanical and fixed blades?

Interestingly enough, there is no "correct" answer to this question! The proper arrow length for your setup is the one that flies the best out of your bow and provides the total weight and FOC that you're looking for. Most people use the end of the riser as the starting point for measuring the correct arrow length simply due to broadhead clearance when shooting larger fixed blade heads. If the end of your arrow comes back behind the edge of the riser you run the risk of the broadhead contacting the riser. With your draw length, a 29" arrow certainly seems like a good option.
